#culture International Conference on Teaching Greek as a Second/ Foreign Language and Multilingualism

We are delighted to share the successful completion of the first major event organised by the Greek Language Institute (INEL), the International Conference on Teaching Greek as a Second/Foreign Language and Multilingualism. The conference took place in Athens, on June 5 and 6, 2025, and was made possible through the support of Qualco Group and the Qualco Foundation.

The conference brought together 41 speakers from 6 Greek and 17 international academic institutions, as well as educators and representatives of Greek communities from around the world.

Its dual purpose was to explore theoretical and methodological approaches to multilingualism in relation to the teaching of Modern Greek, and to foster an exchange of ideas on research and teaching practices. Particular emphasis was placed on Multilingualism and its related dimensions. University lecturers from Greece and abroad (Europe, the U.S., Canada, Australia, China, Africa), along with secondary education teachers, participated in panels, presenting both theoretical frameworks and innovative teaching methods. The thematic sessions offered participants valuable opportunities to share perspectives on research and pedagogical practices related to teaching Modern Greek as a second or foreign language in multilingual settings.

You can view the highlights of the two-day event or watch the full conference sessions on INEL’s YouTube channel (@inel_institute) and on Kivotos (K.INEL).

The conference was organised by the Department of Modern Greek Studies at the University of Strasbourg and the Greek Language Institute. The event was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs, and Sports, as well as the Ministry of Culture, and the Embassy of France in Greece, underscoring its significance and international reach.
