#solidarity Supporting every child who starts with less and deserves more
Qualco Foundation continues its mission to empower children across Greece, particularly those growing up in vulnerable environments or remote regions. From STEAM education and music programmes to psychological support and inclusive sports, we stand beside children who need it most. You can read below about how we support the next generation in learning, creating, and thriving. The story is featured on protothema.gr.
Qualco Foundation supports organisations and initiatives dedicated to the well-being and empowerment of children in Greece. Its work spans a wide range — from covering basic living needs to supporting education and promoting mental and emotional empowerment.
In a rapidly changing world, supporting children is the foundation for a fairer and more humane tomorrow. Especially for those growing up in vulnerable social environments or in remote regions, access to care, education, and opportunities cannot be taken for granted. Seen more broadly, empowering these children is not merely a moral responsibility — it’s about building a future with less isolation and more hope.
This is the vision that Qualco Foundation, the non-profit initiative of the Qualco Group, has been consistently serving. Since 2022, it has implemented over 150 initiatives with a positive impact on the lives of more than 10,000 people across Greece. Through its core pillars — Education & Science, Culture, Sports, and Social Solidarity — it invests in equal opportunities and has succeeded in leaving a meaningful mark on society. Through targeted initiatives and strong collaborations, it supports vulnerable social groups, promotes education, fosters artistic creativity, and safeguards cultural heritage, contributing to addressing critical needs across various sectors of Greek society.
This is precisely what the President of the Qualco Foundation, Mr Orestis Tsakalotos, highlights:
“Our belief in children and the younger generation as agents of change and hope is not just in theory — it is at the heart of our vision for a future of equal opportunities, where every child can learn, create, and thrive in a safe and supportive environment.”
Under the Education & Science pillar, Qualco Foundation supports children’s participation in STEAM programmes that cultivate technology and innovation skills, while also equipping schools with modern educational tools. A noteworthy example is its collaboration with Eduact in support of the National Robotics Team, composed of young people aged 12–18, which competed in the First Global Challenge and secured 4th place worldwide among 191 countries last year.
In the field of Culture, one of the Foundation’s key areas of action is music education. Through programmes and partnerships, it provides children with the opportunity to engage with music, express themselves, and develop their talents. Examples include the scholarship programme of the Little Musicians of the Athens Conservatoire as well as the music education programme for the 20 children of the primary school of Koufonisia, created to fill the existing gap in music learning on the island.
“As diverse as our actions may be — from music lessons on a small Aegean Island, to participation in international robotics competitions, to strengthening schools in remote regions and protecting childhood — we are making a tangible investment in children’s talent, dreams, and potential. Together, we are building a brighter future. We aim to support the future creators, the future scientists, the future dreamers, at their very first steps,” adds Mr Tsakalotos.
At the same time, Qualco Foundation stands by organisations that work daily for the protection of children, providing a safe and supportive framework for those most in need. Among them is ELIZA – Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, which works to prevent abuse through education and awareness. Other examples: organisations such as Together for Children and SOS Children’s Villages, which provide relief, support, and care to children living in vulnerable conditions.
Qualco Foundation also supports organisations that offer specialised services. Notable examples include Karkinaki, with its programme “My Soul”, helping children and families affected by childhood cancer, as well as Open Door, with its Psychomotor Development Group for children with cerebral palsy. As noted by Menia Koukouyanni, Co-Founder of Karkinaki: “Thanks to the valuable contribution of Qualco Foundation, one of our organisation’s visions became reality: we created a safe and supportive space where children and their families receive the psychological care and empowerment they need on the difficult journey of recovery and life after treatment.”
Finally, under the Sports focus area, Qualco Foundation supports local clubs that provide programmes for children and broaden access to sports for all, such as the Athletics & Gymnastics Club “Oion”, the Athletics Club Alexandros Makedonias, and the Nautical Club of Andros.
